Nominate A Worthy Individual for The Barbara Harmon "Unsung Hero" Award
The Barbara Harmon Unsung Hero Award is presented annually to an individual or organization in honor of their contribution to the lives of others. Their selfless service often goes unrecognized, and the Unsung Hero Award is intended to bring light to the work that they do.This award was founded in the memory of an incredible woman who never received nor wanted the credit for the countless hours of community service and for the difference she made in the lives that crossed her own. From working with babies born addicted to drugs, to supporting adolescent youth in her community, to assisting at the World Trade Center disaster, Barbara Harmon embodied the spirit of true heroism.
On September 11th, 2001, as the second plane flew into the World Trade Center, Barbara, with poise and character, sprung from her Wall Street office and into action. After spending six months constantly helping others at the site of this tragedy every night after work, she developed an illness that was contributed to her tireless efforts at the WTC. This illness resulted in her untimely departure, just 14 months after 9/11.
So far, we have been proud to present the Unsung Hero Award to Dr. Casey from By Kids for Kids, Marty Lyons from the Marty Lyons Foundation, Kyle Merker from the Ali Forney Center, members of The Rescue Ink Foundation, and Joe Rock - the voice of WBAB 102.3. Do you have someone you feel is deserving of the Unsung Hero Award?
